NHCP, pSaysay in a History in Colors Project

IN line with the International Conference on the 75th Anniversary of World War II in the Philippines on 17-19 August 2017, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), in partnership with Philippine History in Color (PHC) and Project Saysay, offers to the nation its new exhibit entitled "Mga Kulay ng Digmaan" (Colors of the War). It is initially housed at the lobby of the Clark International Airport starting 18 August 2017.

The exhibit features twenty-one rare images of World War II in the Philippines from the collection of historian Dr. Ricardo Trota Jose of the University of the Philippines Diliman. His collection was digitized by the NHCP. Project Saysay suggested the idea of colorizing some of the images and tapped Ivan Angkaw Bilugan, founder of PHC, to do the colorization.

Bilugan was assisted in historical research by Juan Paolo Calamlam, NHCP history researcher and Project Saysay advocate. Ian Alfonso, also an NHCP history researcher and Project Saysay Executive Director, did the final design.

Calamlam also chose the best images to be featured, wrote the narrative, and curated the exhibit.

The exhibit will be officially inaugurated sometime in September 2017 in Manila. It will be followed by a colorization workshop by Bilugan.
